Reducing Plastic, One Puzzle at a Time

In early 2020, Gibsons made a major change - removing shrink-wrap plastic from their puzzle boxes and replacing it with biodegradable stickers. This small but powerful switch saves over half a million metres of plastic every year. They’re also phasing out plastic puzzle bags entirely, replacing them with recyclable paper bags. For any older puzzles that still contain plastic bags, Gibsons encourages puzzlers to reuse them or recycle them at their local supermarket.

Smarter Packaging, Lower Carbon Footprint

They have reduced the size of their puzzle boxes by an average of 29%, ensuring the pieces fit perfectly while cutting down on excess material. This change also allows them to fit more puzzles per shipment, reducing carbon emissions from transport.

They also make sure their puzzles never travel by air. All Gibsons puzzles are manufactured in the UK and Europe and are always transported by road, keeping their carbon emissions at just one-tenth of what they would be if air freight was used.

Thoughtful Materials for a Greener Future

Sustainability is woven into every Gibsons puzzle. They use FSC-certified paper, the thickest, recycled board available on the market, and print with vegetable-based inks to minimise environmental impact.
